এক গ্রামে একজন কৃষক ছিলেন তিনি দুধ থেকে দই ও মাখন তৈরি করে বিক্রি করতেন।
There was a farmer in a village. He used to make yoghurt and butter from milk and sell it.
একদিন কৃষকের স্ত্রী মাখন তৈরি করে কৃষককে দিলেন বিক্রি করতে। কৃষক তা বিক্রি করার জন্য গ্রাম থেকে শহরের উদ্দেশ্যে রওনা হলেন।
One day the farmer's wife made butter and gave it to the farmer to sell. The farmer left the village for the city to sell it.
মাখনগুলো গোল-গোল রোল আকৃতিতে রাখা ছিল। যার প্রত্যেকটির ওজন ছিল ১ কেজি করে। শহরে পৌঁছে কৃষক প্রতিবারের ন্যায় পূর্ব নির্ধারিত দোকানে মাখনগুলো দিয়ে পরিবর্তে চা চিনি তেল ও তার সংসারের প্রয়োজনীয় দ্রব্যাদি নিয়ে আসতেন।
The butter was kept in a round roll shape. Each of which weighed 1 kg. Arriving in the city, the farmer, as usual, would bring tea, sugar, oil and other necessities of life instead of the butter at the pre-arranged shops.
আজ কৃষক চলে যাওয়ার পরে দোকানদার মাখনের রোলগুলো একটা একটা করে ফ্রিজে রাখার সময় ভাবলেন মাখনের ওজন সঠিক আছে কিনা আজ একবার পরীক্ষা করে দেখা যাক।
After the farmer left today, the shopkeeper kept the rolls of butter in the fridge one by one and thought, let's check if the weight of the butter is correct.
মাখনের রোলগুলো ওজন করতেই উনি দেখলেন মাখনের ওজন আসলে ১ কেজি নয় তা প্রতিটা আছে ৯০০ গ্রাম করে।
As soon as he weighed the butter rolls, he saw that the weight of the butter was not 1 kg but 900 grams each.
পরের সপ্তাহে আবার কৃষক উক্ত দোকানে মাখন বিক্রি করতে গেলেন। দোকানের সামনে পৌঁছানোর সঙ্গে সঙ্গে দোকানদার কৃষকের উদ্দেশ্যে চিৎকার করে বলতে লাগলেন.
The next week the farmer went to the shop again to sell butter. As soon as he reached the front of the shop, the shopkeeper started shouting at the farmer.
বেরিয়ে যাও আমার দোকান থেকে। এবার থেকে কোন বেঈমান চিটিংবাজের সাথে ব্যাবসা কর। আমার দোকানে আর কোনদিন পা রাখবে না। ৯০০ গ্রাম মাখন ১ কেজি বলে বিক্রি করা লোকটার মুখ আমি দেখতে চাইনা।
Get out of my shop. From now on, deal with any dishonest cheaters. Never set foot in my shop again. I don't want to see the face of the man who sold 900 grams of butter for 1 kg.
কৃষক বিনম্রভাবে কম্পিত স্বরে দোকানদারকে বললেন- ”দাদা! দয়া করে রাগ করবেন না। আসলে আমি খুবই গরিব মানুষ.. দাড়িপাল্লার বাটখারা কেনার মতো পয়সা আমার নেই।
The farmer humbly said to the shopkeeper in a trembling voice- “Grandpa! Please don't be angry. In fact, I am a very poor person. I do not have enough money to buy scales.
তাই আপনার থেকে প্রতিবার যে এক কেজি করে চিনি নিয়ে যেতাম.. সেটাই দাড়িপাল্লার একপাশে রেখে অন্য পাশে মাখনের রোল মেপে নিয়ে আসতাম।
So every time I would take one kg of sugar from you. I would leave it on one side of my scales and measure the roll of butter on the other side.
